The LIFE TURBINES project was prominently featured at the 17th National Environmental Congress (CONAMA 2024), held from December 2 to 5 at the IFEMA North Convention Centre in Madrid. Presented by Arantxa Gamón from Global Omnium, the project highlighted its groundbreaking approach to generating renewable energy by harnessing excess pressure in urban water distribution systems.
CONAMA 2024, organized by the Fundación Conama, is one of Spain’s most significant environmental gatherings, bringing together policymakers, businesses, researchers, and NGOs to address critical sustainability challenges. The congress focused on nine thematic areas, including energy and climate change, water, and urban renewal, aligning closely with the objectives of the LIFE TURBINES project.
During her presentation, Gamón emphasized how the LIFE TURBINES project integrates microturbines into existing water infrastructure to convert hydraulic energy into electricity, contributing to the decarbonization of urban environments without compromising water quality or supply. This innovative solution supports the European Union’s goals for sustainable development and climate action.
The project’s participation in CONAMA 2024 provided an opportunity to engage with a diverse audience, fostering discussions on the potential of urban hydropower and the importance of leveraging existing infrastructure for renewable energy generation.
