LIFE TURBINES and AeioLuz empower schools and communities with renewable energy education

From November 27 to December 12, 2024, the LIFE TURBINES project, in collaboration with AeioLuz, led a powerful community outreach campaign across the Valencia region. Six workshops were delivered to schools, parents, and vulnerable communities, aimed at promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainable living practices. The initiative engaged over 170 participants and brought the innovative spirit of LIFE TURBINES to life, demonstrating how hydropower from urban water systems can revolutionize energy production in cities, making them smarter and more sustainable.

Workshops for schools, fostering the next generation of climate leaders

– CEIP Mare de Déu del Patrocini, Foios (Nov 27 & 28): Over 93 students from 5th and 6th grade took part in interactive sessions exploring climate change, renewable energy, and water efficiency. These young learners became “green ambassadors,” understanding how LIFE TURBINES uses water pressure in pipes to generate electricity.

 – CEIP Nuestra Señora de Fátima (Dec 3): 52 sixth-grade students discovered the value of small actions for a big environmental impact. Through hands-on learning, they gained insight into how water infrastructure can be leveraged for clean energy.

Workshops for refugees and migrants, energy as empowerment

– CEAR Cullera (Nov 29): A small but impactful group of 5 participants from refugee and migrant backgrounds joined an educational workshop focused on sustainability and energy literacy. The session also helped improve their integration into the labor market through knowledge of green technologies.

Workshops for parents, sustainable homes start here

– La Pechina Infant School (Dec 11): Parents explored practical tips on energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions for the household. The workshop emphasized their role in teaching sustainability to the next generation.

– Benicalap Infant School (Dec 12): 20 parents engaged in discussions on creating energy-smart habits at home, while learning how the LIFE TURBINES project is driving real-world innovation for cities.

A vision in action

Across all sessions, participants (young and old) discovered how LIFE TURBINES contributes to the clean energy transition by harnessing hydropower from drinking water systems. These workshops showcased the potential of community-based education in accelerating Europe’s green future.

“Our mission is not just about technology, it’s about people,” said a representative from the AeioLuz team. “By reaching out to schools and communities, we are planting the seeds of awareness and action for a sustainable tomorrow.”
