On the 19th of February, the Moebius Science Talks event in Valencia featured a special session titled “Ella Prende Las Turbinas”, where representatives from Global Omnium introduced the public to the LIFE TURBINES project and its practical potential for urban sustainability.
The session, presented by project delegates Cristina De Diego, Teresa Oltra and Stéphanie Aparicio, explored how compact hydropower systems can recover otherwise wasted energy from drinking-water networks and convert it into clean electricity for public uses.
The presentation framed the project within everyday city life, explaining in accessible terms how recovered energy can power public fountains, lighting and other municipal services without compromising water quality or supply. Attendees learned about the pilot installations underway, the community outreach activities, and pathways for replication in other European cities.
The session attracted a diverse audience of local residents, students and professionals and sparked a lively Q&A on how hydropower can fit into broader climate and circular-economy strategies at the city level. Organisers noted strong interest in further outreach activities and follow-ups to deepen community involvement.
