LIFE TURBINES partners came together today in Grosseto, Tuscany, for the project’s 4th General Assembly, hosted by consortium partner Acquedotto del Fiora and coordinated by Aguas de Valencia (AVSA). The meeting brought the full consortium together to review progress across the project’s work packages, coordinate upcoming activities and look ahead to the next phase of implementation.
The General Assembly provided an opportunity to connect the work taking place across the consortium and assess how the project is progressing towards its wider objectives. With 13 pilot cases across Spain and Italy, LIFE TURBINES is demonstrating how existing drinking water infrastructure can support renewable energy generation by recovering pressure that would otherwise be lost in the network.
A key part of the meeting was a technical visit to the LIFE TURBINES demonstration site in Scansano. There, partners could see the project approach in a real operating environment, where micro-turbines are used to convert pressure drops in drinking water pipes into electricity. The Scansano site also illustrates the project’s potential to connect energy recovery with local applications and energy-community models involving farms, wineries and agrotourism.
The visit brought the project’s technical work and consortium collaboration together in one place, reinforcing the importance of moving from individual demonstrations towards solutions that can be replicated in other cities and water networks. As LIFE TURBINES enters its next phase, the partners will continue refining the pilot experience, advancing the project’s decision-support tool for turbine selection and building the evidence needed for wider uptake.
