The LIFE TURBINES project has been selected as a finalist in the Innovation category of the 2025 European Sustainable Energy Awards (EUSEW). This prestigious recognition highlights the project’s innovative approach to generating renewable energy by harnessing excess pressure in urban drinking water systems.
LIFE TURBINES, as a collaborative initiative between Spanish and Italian partners, integrates microturbines into existing water infrastructure to produce clean electricity without impacting water quality or supply. With 13 pilot sites across Spain and Italy, the project is generating nearly 1 million kWh annually and avoiding over 250 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.
The EUSEW Awards celebrate outstanding individuals and projects driving Europe’s clean energy transition. Public voting for the awards is open until June 1, 2025, allowing citizens to support their favorite finalists. The winners will be announced during the EUSEW Awards ceremony on June 10, 2025, in Brussels. As project partners, we’re extremely thrilled and thankful for this opportunity.
